It has been a rare occasion during this volleyball season that Rick gets to sleep in and on October 2, we took advantage. Mathen climbed into bed with me as usual around 7:30am and his eyes lit up when he saw daddy. He made his way over my belly (not a small challenge hahaha) and grabbed a hold of daddy's face and snuggled away. This picture was taken when daddy was really trying to get a little more sleep and Mathen thought he would "pretend" to sleep. He actually yawned as I was pushing the button so it gives it a more "real" expression on his little face. I am so thankful for a loving, supportive, hard-working husband that recognizes his family needs "family time."
Later that day, Rick and I had ran an errand and found a caterpillar on our way into the garage. I looked at Rick and he knew that I wanted Mathen to see it (I didn't have to even say it). He found some paper of sorts and helped the caterpillar on to the paper. We took it inside so Mathen could inspect it up close. He was thrilled to see one up close and he kept saying, "It's cute caterpillar!" (Mathen had a run-in with the bleacher stairs a couple days before this and the scratches are still noticeable.)
We then took it outside and watched it crawl all over the deck.
He was not afraid to touch it.
The simple things in life can make a child smile and I strive to see these simple things and smile myself.
It eventually got out of reach and Mathen said, "Goodbye, see ya later." He makes me enjoy the simple things so much more!
